February 17, 2024 By Valentino Muža Leave a Comment Last Updated: February 17, 2024

BenfoPure® is a patented brand of thiamine that has been used for decades in Japan.

benfopure reviewBenfoPure is a brand of benfotiamine (vitamin B1) used to manage the side effects of excess blood sugar. This BenfoPure review details its potential advantages over plain benfotiamine and thiamine supplements:

  • FDA-recognized. BenfoPure is a benfotiamine brand Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the FDA.
  • Established. BenfoPure has been successfully used in Japan and Europe for several decades.
  • High-absorption. Compared to generic thiamine, BenfoPure is thought to have superior potency thanks to increased bioavailability. It doesn’t necessarily have superior bioavailability to generic benfotiamine brands, however.

Overview

BenfoPure is a brand of benfotiamine, a special form of vitamin B1 (thiamine). Developed in Japan in the 1950s, benfotiamine is used in dietary supplements to protect against the negative effects of elevated blood sugar levels, such as diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage), retinopathy, and kidney issues. Unlike thiamine, benfotiamine is fat-soluble, making it easier for the body to absorb and use.

Produced by Japanese biotech company Hamari Chemicals, BenfoPure is a benfotiamine brand on the U.S. market with FDA GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status. Considered a high-quality source of benfotiamine, it has been used for decades in Japan and Europe to counter the detrimental effects of high blood sugar.

How does BenfoPure work?

Benfotiamine is believed to work by activating the enzyme transketolase, which helps prevent excess blood sugar from causing cell damage. In particular, benfotiamine may reduce levels of Advanced Glycation Endproducts (AGEs) – compounds that play a role in the health complications of diabetes and possibly even the process of aging itself.

Did you know? Hamari also produces Pepzin GI, a zinc-carnosine complex used to alleviate heartburn and other digestive concerns.

BenfoPure Nutritional Supplement Uses

Benfopure is almost exclusively used in supplements designed to counter the complications of high blood sugar and by extent diabetes. More specifically, research suggests that benfotiamine can protect against diabetic complications such as neuropathy (nerve damage), retinopathy (eye damage), nephropathy (kidney damage), and damage to blood vessels. In addition, BenfoPure can also be used to counter thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency caused by excessive alcohol use.

BenfoPure Advantages

Compared to generic benfotiamine and thiamine supplements, BenfoPure may offer several advantages:

  • Established: BenfoPure has been produced for decades by a Japanese company known for high quality.
  • FDA-recognized: BenfoPure is a benfotiamine brand available in the U.S. with Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) FDA status.
  • Bioavailable: BenfoPure is absorbed better than regular thiamine by the body because it is fat-soluble, making it more potent than generic thiamine (vitamin B1), but not necessarily better than benfotiamine.

BenfoPure Research

There are currently no studies of BenfoPure that we are aware of. However, generic benfotiamine has been examined in numerous clinical studies. For this reason, BenfoPure may not have any advantages over generic benfotiamine supplements at all.

BenfoPure Dosage

  • Standalone BenfoPure supplements typically provide 150-200 mg dosages.

Supplements in Review Recommendation

  • BenfoPure®, 150-200 mg.

BenfoPure is a FDA-recognized form of benfotiamine. Backed by decades of use in Japan and FDA GRAS status, BenfoPure is considered by some as the highest-quality brand of benfotiamine available.

Follow supplement-recommended dosages. There isn’t enough research to suggest a particular dosage. As such, it’s best to follow individual supplement recommendations.
